April fools my arse!

Just so everyone knows, I don't enjoy April Fool's jokes, especially about work! Why would you want to go out of your way to make someone look like a fool? I mean do people really get off on making other people look like idiots? They have feelings too!

Every year it's the same thing, ha ha very funny, I will seriously go "house" on anyone playing a joke on me this year, my temper is too short to put up with it! THIS MEANS YOU!

........ just kidding!!! APRIL FOOLS!

*smirks* -RW-JP-

$109.55 a Barrel?!?!?!

Ok, I am like any other guy, I have a truck, I need it for work, its just something I cannot do a lot about. Now they are saying gas prices could go as high as $3.75 a gallon by the end of the spring. Now, we do have a more economical vehicle too, but since all of my driving is done in town, the savings is minimal. They are saying the reason that oil is jumping so high despite production being up by over 6 million barrels is because the dollar's value against the Euro is dropping. Oil itself is a good hedge fund because foreign investors buy oil when the dollar is low as they get more bang for their buck so to speak.

Now while all of this is going on, big oil is making record profits. We are not buying more oil (other than the normal consumer growth) in the US, so, let me ask, if we are not buying more, but the oil companies are making more... where is that money coming from? That would tell me that the price of a gallon of gas has been artifically increased.

I make it a point not to talk about politics much in my journal, but at this point, I feel I need to remind folks that this is the time to start making your decisions very carefully when you are deciding who you want to end up residing in the white house this next time around. It doesn't matter your political affiliation or anything else, what it boils down to is which candidate is going to address the issues and lead this country in the right direction. I am also not going to endorse someone as that is your own decision to make based on your views. I just know 4 years from now, I DON'T want to still be at war, and I don't want to be walking to work, which is basically where this all is heading.

I read my friends page a couple times a day and it hurts to see so many of my friends struggling like I am just to make it by day to day. There is no reason it has to be like this. I honestly don't know what I am going to do if things don't pick up soon, I imagine it will mean picking up a second job, which is about the last thing I want to do.

It is getting physically painful to listen to the news everyday, it just seems like everything is bad.

Sorry for the rant, this has been your PSA for the day heh...

-RW-

A call for help

One of the biggest blessings I have in life is my friends. It hurts me to see them in pain or suffering. I have a friend who's father has been sick for some time, and he is in the hospital again today, and she is worried terribly about him. He is getting ready to say his goodbyes and move on so he is no longer in pain.

It's never easy to say goodbye to a parent, in fact, I think that it is one of the hardest things anyone can do to help a family member move on and say good bye.

Whatever your faith, whatever you believe happens after death, I ask all my friends to keep "C" in your prayers and thoughts today and through the rest of this situation, whatever the outcome may be. If you have thoughts or well wishes, please comment here and I will pass these along to her.

Together we can get through anything.

Thank you everyone

-RW-

Samhain

Happy Day of the Dead! (in whatever form you celebrate it in)

This day means a lot of things to many people, but to me Samhain is the start of the New Year, a time to let go of the old and embrace the new. The end of the harvest season is here and it is time to pay respects to those love ones and friends that are departed. Colors for the day of course are orange and black (as rightly they should be) and I light a single candle and pay my respects to the spirits.

For those of you who do not know what Samhain is:

Samhain is the best-loved Sabbat of many Pagans. The dark half of the year commences on this night. It is the Witches' New Year's Eve, as well as the third and final harvest festival in the Wheel of the Year.

Traditionally, Samhain is the meat harvest. This was the time when cattle and other livestock were slaughtered for eating in the ensuing winter months.

Samhain was the last hurrah before winter's arrival. An unusually bitter winter or late-arriving spring would endanger our ancestors' survival, and they had no way to predict the temperament of the season. They had to rely on the rebirth of nature, and their myths and stories reflect this period of insecurity and worry. The hope and promise of reincarnation (of themselves as well as nature) was a salve in this time of physical uncertainty.

On this night, the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead is said to be the thinnest. It is the Day of the Dead for modern Pagans as it was for the Celts, Egyptians, and ancient Mexicans, a night to remember deceased loved ones and honor ancestors.

None of us know what will happen to us (assuming we have enduring souls) after we die. Samhain is a time to ponder on and celebrate the Dark Mysteries of ourselves and nature, reflected in the wonderful salve of the Crone and the God of the Underworld.

Samhain is also known as Halloween, All Hallow's Eve, Hallowmas, Day of the Dead, Third Harvest, Hallowstide, and Celtic New Year.

For all of my friends, both those departed and those still here, Blessed Be!

-RW-

Ok, Firefox, I wasn't going to do this one, but.. lol.. the answer fit when I did so it made the post. The other amusing thing about this answer, was that their script generator to post this on my blog, was broken, so I actually had to FIX the HTML coding just to post it, thus, proving a point!

<img width="300" height="90" alt="You are .html You are versatile and improving, but you do have your limits.
Well I got out.. darn!

Well, I got out of the alley, with much mud flinging and tire spinning, but I am here. LOL the whole side of my truck is covered with mud. The thing that struck me after I got out and around the block was how much the street changed overnight. The whole south bound lane is sunk anywhere from 3 to 6 inches for 3, almost 4 blocks and the intersection 3 blocks downhill from the actual break, has a big hole in it. I have a feeling I will be using my alley for quite a while to get in and out of my drive.

We also are going to have to replace the last slab of concrete at the end of the drive and the one leading into the allet as they have both cracked and sunk. There is a sink hole developing in front of the storm drain too, I only hope they get it fixed before the hard rains we seem to get every fall. I got some more pictures but I have not put them up yet. I am going to talk to the water company about fixing our alley too as there are going to be some huge ruts from where I have to slog through the mud to get in and out.

On a side note, tomorrow is trash day but there is no way for the trash truck to get to my back gate, I need to call them and find out where I can take it or have them pick it up.. perhaps I can take the cans to my other house and pick them up that night. Will just have to wait and see.

Oy! what a morning

Water water everywhere, but not a drop to drink!! Yes, I woke up this morning, lights were flashing in my window, the door bell was ringing and I could hear the rushing river through my window. Wait a sec.. rushing river? I don't live near a river! I get up and look out the window, lo and behold.. there is a watermain break in front of my house. There is water rushing over the sidewalk, into my yard, down the alley and down the street. The actual break was on a main line up the road from me, where there is now.. you guess it.. a sinkhole! Woo Hoo! I have my own personal sinkhole!

Ok, so I never really wanted a sinkhole. Now the curb and the end of my driveway are damaged. There is water in my basement, but none in my shower. So.. I get to go to work.. with.... the funk! (ok, I took a shower last night, but its humid, I wanted another one!) The good news is this. I let the water company in and they took pics of the leak in my basement (had been there since I owned the house, but now THEY might have to fix it lol go me!) Also, the street appears to be sinking, if they have to repair it, they repair the curb too! (which is something I was going to have to pay for) so its not all bad. I am debating calling out of work though, I don't know if I can get my truck out through the alley with all the mud..

Here are some pics once it got light out.. more forthcoming as they tear up the street.

Only insane folks do this!

Ok, I am at work now but before I can start my day I have to get this out of my head and written down somewhere lest I loose my resolve to do it. If it's down somewhere there is no taking it back.... so... here it goes:

I hear about a lot of cities having Fur Cons, and while there are some that are within driving distance, such as MFF, MFM, RCFM and Oklacon, Kansas city does not have its own. There are a lot of furs in KC if our yahoo group is any indication, and many of them are very active. I got to thinking at the breakfast last week, why don't we have our own?

So.. here is my fledgling idea. I would like to have a local con. There are plenty of spaces to have it in, no matter how big it gets. KC is also a very liberal community in my opinion for being a midwest city. If we can have a huge outdoor weekend convention for Gay/Lesbian pride then we can have a fur con, surely.

Every great idea starts out small. I would like ours to be unique in a truely midwestern way, though I am not sure what that should be yet. The first thing I would like to do is this. I would like to come up with a name. Just a name. A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step and this is it. So I am asking you, all of my friends and all of the furs who come along and find this post, to post a comment, suggesting a name. Once we have a series of selections I will pick a number of them and we can vote for them. The same suggestions and vote will be posted to my Y! group (kcfur) and we will pick one.

Once we have a name to start with I will start my research and get a web site and a group going for it. It will take a while to make this come to fruition, but I know with my friends help, I can do anything.

So... all of you furs out there, this is your chance, get out there and help a fledgling idea, a dream, turn into a reality. Tell all your friends, ask them what they think and for their ideas. Feel free to cross post this to other journals and groups. Anyone who comes to my journal and asks to be added as a friend I will add. Also, feel free to post and tell me I am nuts too!

KO and Haystack, I may be asking you for some advice soon. We will see what happens!

-RW-

To those of you who have posted here or gotten with me in other ways with offers of encouragement, help and advice, I want to thank you. I find it really easy to loose sight of what is important and that you are never truely alone if you have good friends. I was listening to the radio at lunch and heard a song come on that really made me think when I listened to the lyrics. I am not a huge country fan, but I listen to it a fair amount and I have never listened to the words of this song until today. If you want, I posted the lyrics below, feel free to check them out behind the cut.

Thank you again everyone. I love you all.

-RW-

<div class="ljcut" text="The song... Don't be afraid to take a lot of pictures. That is what makes digital cameras and a big memory card a great thing. Not only does it make sure you don't run out of room on your card at that critical moment, you never know when that one perfect shot will come! Increase your odds!
